The Sweet Home Mine, originally a silver mine opened in 1873, became famous for its rhodochrosite crystals in the mid- 1960's. The Alma King which measures 6.5 inches diagonally is the largest rhodochrosite crystal in the world. It was discovered in August of 1992. A small group of students, parents, and teachers from Platte Canyon got a great tour of the mine on June 12th, 2002. |
